FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What services does Unlimited Keys offer?
We cut and program car keys and remotes, resolve lockouts and lost keys, supply and code ECUs, and program dash instrument clusters — for most makes and models on the road in South Africa.
Do you come to me, or do I need to bring my car in?
Both. We run mobile call-outs across Pretoria, Midrand and Krugersdorp for on-site cutting and programming, and we also take workshop bookings if your vehicle needs bench work such as ECU coding.
How fast can I get a replacement car key?
Most standard key cutting and remote programming jobs are completed the same day, often within the hour of arriving. Specialist ECU or dealer-locked keys can take a little longer — we'll always confirm timing upfront.
I've lost all my car keys, not just one. What happens now?
We can cut and program a full new set from scratch on most vehicles. Because this involves clearing existing keys from the vehicle's system, we'll ask for proof of ownership or ID matching the vehicle registration before starting, as a security precaution.
How much does car key cutting or programming cost?
Pricing depends on your vehicle's make, model and year, and whether you need a basic key, remote, or transponder key. Send us your vehicle details on WhatsApp and we'll give you an accurate quote before any work begins.
Do you work on all car makes and models?
We work on the vast majority of makes sold in South Africa, from everyday hatchbacks to German and Japanese vehicles with transponder or smart-key systems. If you're unsure, message us your vehicle's make, model and year and we'll confirm.
Troubleshooting
Quick checks before you call a locksmith
A few common key problems can be solved in minutes — here's what to check first.
Remote not working
Check if the battery is dead first — most remotes use a CR2032 coin battery. Replace it before calling a locksmith; it solves the majority of "dead remote" cases.
Immobiliser light staying on
A flashing immobiliser light usually means the key's chip isn't communicating with the car. Try your spare key — if that works too, the issue is likely the vehicle's receiver, not the key.
Key stuck or won't turn
Make sure the steering wheel isn't locked against the ignition barrel — turn the wheel gently while trying the key. Never force it; a stuck key can snap.
Key snapped in the lock or ignition
Don't try to fish it out yourself — this often pushes the broken piece in further. Leave the vehicle as-is and message us for an on-site extraction.
Only ever had one key
Cut a spare as soon as possible. A lost-only-key situation is more costly and time-sensitive to resolve than replacing one of a pair.
